The wonderful hospital

We had a wonderful event at the hospital that took care of Deanna today.  They held a wonderful event for us in the lobby at 11 AM.  We also were on Action News tonight, the link should be up tomorrow.  Make sure you turn on the news! Turn on the Radio! We were celebs today at St. Christopher's - awesome reading by Deana! ABC 6 at 6:00 and WHYY 91.4 tonight and tomorrow morning!! Plus the Philadelphia Tribune was there! Deana rocked. Thank you St. Christopher's! Thank you soooo much!!!!!

What a memorable night for us and our families!

Our First Award!!

Public Citizens for Children and Youth's Picasso project have nominated Meloni, Judy and Deana for the 2011 Kassandara Madison Arts Education Leadership Award. This is given to someone who shows leadership in arts education in Philadelphia, and their collaboration on the book How My Sun Got Its Smile is a demonstration of their good work. The award will be publicly given at our Grants Award Ceremony on Tuesday January 11 from 4-6 pm (awarding at ca. 5pm) at World Cafe Live upstairs, 3025 Walnut St. Philadelphia. http://pccy.org/?page=ThePicassoProject__38

Do You Believe in Coincidences?

Welcome to our website! We are two teachers who teach in the inner city of
Philadelphia. We teach in a high poverty area at Luis Marin Elementary School. Both of
 us were new to Marin in September, 2009.

Judy was starting her 32nd year as a lower grade teacher. Meloni was starting her second
year of being an art teacher. It was the first day of school and Judy walked into the
school’s library. She was excited because she was starting a new position as a Reading
Recovery teacher. She was also very nervous, as it was in a new school where she did
not know anyone. Upon entering the library she saw Meloni sitting all alone at a table
and decided to join her. After introducing themselves the two teachers learned that they
had something in common; they had BOTH started their teaching careers in the exact
same school in Camden, New Jersey; Bonsall Elementary School on Mt. Ephraim Ave.
Coincidence or fate? Of course when Judy taught at that Bonsall, Meloni wasn’t even
born!

Next they were assigned their classrooms and were right across the hall from each other.
Again – coincidence or fate? We’ll let you decide!

A strong friendship was formed and it became obvious that Meloni was the only one to
illustrate Judy’s book about this incredible child!
